Children & Organisation!
1) How organised are you in the mornings? Households are usually well organised in TV world, but, in reality, things can be chaotic.
So, having a routine that is followed every school day can really help. Make sure that you give yourself time to get yourself together, and even have a morning cuppa, ready to face the coming onslaught before that onslaught actually happens.
Try not to allow the children to fill in time before school with TV, gaming consoles and the X-box – perhaps quieter fill ins would be better.
2) The Girl Guide motto was always “be prepared”, and this is never truer than early mornings! Make sure that things are prepared the night before – teach the children to help with this; lunchboxes, fruit snacks, and cereal boxes being put out the night before are all within children’s capabilities.
3) The Clothes Fairy! Please teach the children that when they come home from school they can’t throw their bags down, or hang their coats on the floor, waiting for the clothes fairy to come and tidy up. This way, the children will know where to find everything in the morning without a frantic search.
4) A giant calendar / planner on the kitchen wall or fridge door will help the children know when their different school activities are due – from tutoring sessions, music lessons and play dates, to gym, PE and Art. Discuss with them what equipment and uniform they need to take to school the next day, and let them be responsible for gathering everything together.
I hope that these simple tips help you.
