Playing with your child.
Many parents of young children worry they are not spending enough time playing with them.
During a survey of 2,000 parents 63 per cent wish they had done more activities with their child. Lauren Revell from Huggies Little Swimmers, which comimissioned the research said “Things can seem simpler with hindsight, and it seems you definitely live and learn when you’re a parent!!! More than six out of ten said they only played with their child occasionally.
One in six fathers say they don’t know how to play with their child.
All children crave attention and love their parents to play, allowing your child to lead the game’s helps guide you.
Imaginative play is so important for children it helps with their confidence, social skills, turn taking and language development it also allows parents bonding time with their child.
Playing with you and other trusted adults creates the positive and secure relationships that build the brain cells your child will use later in school and in life. Your playful interactions with your child shape their ability to learn—so play & have fun, lose those inhibitions’!!
Think back to when you were a child what games did you love to play? The simple games were the best!
• Laying on a blanket on the floor and having a pretend or real indoor picnic including teddies and dolls
• Hide and seek games indoors or outside
• Make a camp/den indoors or outside
• Make a bus with chairs or cushions remember to take it turns to decide the destination and to be the driver!
• Set up a shop or cafe with real food from the kitchen
Try a game today and see how much fun you have with your child!
“Imagination is more important than knowledge generally. For knowledge is limited to all we now know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.” – Albert Einstein
